Objective: To determine the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (SM) in health personnel and its association with lifestyle in a family medical unit (UMF). Design: Descriptive and cross-sectional study. Setting: Primary health care. Participants: 119 in the categories, auxiliary nurses, nurses, family doctors, social workers and laboratory workers, assigned to UMF who met selection criteria. Main measurements: SM with >3 criteria according to the Third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program (ATP-III) adjusted to the International Diabetes Federation (FID) and fantastic questionnaire for lifestyles evaluated with Likert scale and score 0 to 100 (the higher the score equals the better lifestyle). For the association of variables, Square chi test and student’s t test were applied. Results: 104(87.4%) women and 15(12.6%) men participated, with an average age of 39, with a prevalence of SM 44(36.97%), appearing in the category of assistants in 21(47.22%), followed by doctors in 9(39.13%). When comparing styles, square chi test with p 0.919, which shows that there is no relationship between lifestyles and MS, when analyzing it by domain, relevance in nutrition (maximum score 16) was found with SM 10.38±3.26 and without SM 12.93±2.49 (p 0.002). Conclusions: The frequency of SM was higher than that of the general population, no association was found between the presence of MS and lifestyles, however, if it was shown that poor nutrition influences the presence of SM.
